Practical experience

Sebushi’s practice mainly consists of employment law and corporate law. Some of the matters that he has been involved in include the following:

  • Appointed by the Independent Development Trust (IDT) to investigate and initiate disciplinary proceedings against its employee(s) at its Free State Regional Office. The employee(s) were accused of insubordination, insolence and dishonesty amongst others in an act that delayed the Employer’s procurement processes.
  • Appointed to by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) to investigate and institute a disciplinary hearing against a senior manager accused of issuing fraudulent asylum to various foreign nationals. The employee was dismissed.
  • Appointed to advise the Government Technical Advisory Centre (GTAC) in respect of the National Treasury project called the ‘Closing the Gap: In-house SME Funding Project. The project was worth a total amount of R170, 000, 000.00 (One Hundred and Seventy Million Rand). A contractual dispute arose between GTAC as the National Treasury’s agent and its partner to the agreement.
  • Appointed to advise the Public Service Commission (PSC) on irregular procurement of service providers involving Gauteng Departments, including the office of the Premier.
  • Appointed to advise the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) (acting on behalf of the Unemployed Insurance Fund) in a contractual dispute relating to the release of a disbursement in respect of a term of loan facility agreement. The project in question was worth R71 000 000.00 (Seventy One Million Rand).
  • Appointed to advise PIC (acting on behalf of Government Employee Pension Fund) on some of its various commercial rental related lease agreements, including in contractual dispute against big retail companies such as Pick’ n Pay.
  • In general, to assist in advising clients on complex and high-level labour and employment law matters. Sebushi’s regular clients include Public Investment Corporation, Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Department of Home Affairs, Border Management Authority (BMA), City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, Road Accident Fund, Independent Development Trust (IDT), Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB), Auditor General South Africa (AGSA), and the Community Scheme Ombuds Services (CSOS).
