Practical experience

Mari heads the urgent motion court, forensic investigation, property management and tax litigation departments. She is also the Secretary of the board of directors.  As part of her overall practice, she attends to the following:

• Advising public entities and other clients on the Constitution, Public Finance Management Act, Municipal Systems Act, procurement policies and any other applicable legislation.
• Interrogating reviewing, negotiating and drafting contracts (lease agreements, supply agreements, service level agreements, etc.).
• Drafing court processes (action and application proceedings, including heads of argument), and appearances in High and Magistrates Courts.
• Advising clients on property law and management related aspects, including advising on the Prevention of Illegal Eviction from and Unlawful Occupation of Land Act.
• Advising clients in insolvencies and participating in insolvency inquiries, including advising on the Companies Act and Insolvency Act.
• Conducting forensic- and due diligence investigations and providing necessary recommendations.
• Advising clients in tax- related matters, including interpretation of the Tax Administration Act and Value- Added Tax Act, including related litigation
• Assisted entities with determining compliance requirements that impact on the mining industry in relation to all relevant and associated legislation that may range from issues to do with royalties, securities, guarantees and similar concepts as required by legislation and regulations.
• Assisted clients, mainly the South African Revenue Service (SARS), with advisory memorandums on the interpretations of a variety of Tax legislation, and also in disputes that involve Tax Law
