Practical experience

Samvu Gumede’s career has spanned both the legal and banking fraternities in SA and abroad.  Before joining DM Inc as a Consultant, Samvu was the Director and Head of Legal for the Instratin Group and its subsidiaries, and a founding member responsible for all legal matters pertaining to the company. Samvu has over the years canvassed the formal landscape, working in first-tier law firms and Investment Banks locally and abroad. He has also navigated the entrepreneurship terrain as a Consultant with his own stable of a diverse clientele.

He has had the privilege to serve at some reputable law firms namely: Garlicke & Bousfield Attorneys(Durban), Fulbright & Jaworski LLP (Washington DC), and Bowman Gilfillan Attorneys (Sandton Jhb). Additionally, he has consulted at the Hilton Group (London), and held key roles at Standard Corporate Merchant Bank (SCMB SA), and served at Nedbank SA as the Head of Business Banking (BEE) prior to moving into the Investment Banking division of the business.

Some of his notable achievements to date: Devised the Data Protection Strategy for the Hilton Group LLP in the United Kingdom as well as its operations in Europe; Advised in and was instrumental in the funding of multiple JSE listed mergers and acquisitions as an Investment Banker; Advised on multiple commercial, corporate, domestic and international transactions as a corporate lawyer/consultant in South Africa, the UK, and US; Consulted on various successful transactions in his individual capacity.
